SUMMARY:CPNV Member Meeting - September 2023
DESCRIPTION:Embrace the Dissonance: Understanding Couples as They Come Apar
t\nPresented by: Barbara Burr\, Esq. and Lisa Herrick\, PhD\nMost of us ch
oose our life partner with the promise that our beloved will meet our most
profound longings. Our hopes reflect compelling\, often unconscious hunge
rs deep in our souls. Consider Imago theory’s “ghost partner\,” or t
he “lock and key” from Navigating the Emotional Dynamics of Divorce. T
wo people choose each other with wishes that often lead to struggle\, disa
ppointment\, and anger as the very same characteristics that pulled the co
uple together now push them apart.  And often\, those same forces pull us
into parallel struggles with our Collaborative team members as clients cl
amber for validation that bleeds into alignment if not enmeshment.  This
program teaches us to embrace the dissonance – to explore each marriage
’s disappointing patterns so we can understand both clients deeply\, and
compassionately.  We will practice the art of holding both partners’ c
lashing narratives—the magical tool that encourages clients to venture f
orward on a pathway that once again promises hope.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n
\n*This presentation is intended for Collaboratively trained professionals
or those interested in becoming trained in the Collaborative Process. For

e has historically handled family finances\, while the other is (or feels)
less knowledgeable about money and has remained hands off.\n\nAs Collabor

sometimes involves educating and empowering the hands-off spouse\, while s
imultaneously helping the other to navigate anxieties associated with reli
nquishing the role of family CFO. Some clients take on the challenge with
energy and agency. Other times\, one or both spouses throw up emotional an
d practical obstacles to making shifts in the financial status quo.\n\nIn
this presentation\, we’ll learn about the relatively new legal and acade

other difficult financial marital “dances\,” and discuss practical imp
