Biography
For the last twenty five years, I have been working with clients who are struggling with marriage, separation and divorce. I have helped parents who are suffering high conflict in their divorce, have worked with children and teens whose parents are in the midst of separating, and I have provided services as a Collaborative Coach and/or Child Specialist during the last nine years. I have worked on more than 180 Collaborative cases at this point, with the vast majority coming to successful resolution. One of the things that is most important to me as a divorce professional is to provide ongoing and consistent support to all of my clients. To me, support means both providing guidance through a very confusing time, offering input about emotional challenges for clients and their children, and offering myself as a sounding board for clients who often need to talk through ideas, options, and challenging decisions. I am equally dedicated to helping both fathers and mothers in their efforts to remain fully engaged parents and in their efforts to learn how to parent effectively even though they are getting divorced. I believe parents CAN protect children from many negative impacts of divorce if they are informed, reassured, and strengthened. I am a founding member of the Collaborative Professionals Training Institute (CPTI), a tri-state faculty of professionals who offer basic and advanced trainings throughout the country. In September, 2010, I co-founded the Collaborative Practice Center of Greater Washington, a suite of offices where attorneys, mental health professionals and financial experts share space and work side by side on Collaborative ventures. Finally, I have co-authored two books with Kate Scharff, one titled Navigating Emotional Currents in Collaborative Divorce; A Guide to Enlightened Team Practice. That book was published in October 2010. A second book, Mastering Crucial Moments in Separation and Divorce; A Multidisciplinary Guide to Excellence in Practice and Outcome was published in October, 2016, also by the American Bar Association Press.
